Fuelset - new song

It was announced back in April that Auckland band, Fuelset, found replacement vocalist in Jacob X-Zile, and hence could get on with things. It's a couple of days old but they've put a link of the hardfastheavy fb page for their latest unmixed, unmastered demo, "Leading Goats to Water", the first song to be released from their upcoming album "Sounds of a Dying Seagull" due out by the end of the year.
Despite being 'unmixed, unmastered' it's sounding good, and I guess the fusion element comes from the different vocal styles. Check out their 1st music video for the song below.

The band has returned to gigging and their reverb page states a few gigs in Oct/Nov but any more details than that are TBA.
Though they are playing at Whammy bar, November 11th with November Fall, Golias and Roache   http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=242632795774713

Naked Zombies!!

http://www.talentlessblob.com/2011/08/zombie-inc-dreadful-decease.html
Check out the link above:-

Over this past weekend I've been listening to a new album by an Austrian super-group, who've put out an old school Death Metal record.
All members of the band are currently working with other projects, but most notably: vocalist Martin Schirenc is from Pungent Stench and drummer Tomasz Janiszewski is from Belphegor.

ZOMBIE INC's latest album A Dreadful Decease is now available electronically via itunes http://itunes.apple.com/nz/album/a-dreadful-decease/id451714270 etc, and I recommend you check them out.

(Title of this post, 'Naked Zombies' is a push at the album cover, there's no nudity contained within the walls of this blog.)

Resporn's new music video

Resporn's new music video for "Blessed Wings" From their "Divisionary" Album. As I said on facebook, it's a mix of a performance and plot where the plot follows the action packed adventures of a rogue 20 dollar bill.

Metal on music award online petition

Checking my emails today and I saw this and realised that I'd completely forgot to 'sign' the thing.
Sarah, the starter of the petition  and the petition is going to be on TV3 news. I hope someone decent conducts the interview, rather than someone who'll act like their filming for a retirement home. "So, the distorted guitars, aye?" "dressing differently, aye?" "Shouting and screaming, aye?"
"I'll naturally finish asking questions based on my assumption that things like Metal music is a fringe element in society, isolated to small pockets of generic stereotypes, which I might try & make fun of with outdated and under researched shity jokes which would get me fired were they aimed at a racial or gender group, RATHER than being all penetrative of society's perceived boundaries, and in actual fact I can't tell whether any of my well-to-do co-workers, the guy selling my something or my boss are closet metalheads, or maybe at a stretch, is related to one."

Many of you will be aware of this petition.. it recently closed with just under 800 signatures.  BUT TV3 now want to do a story on the petition and the story behind it so luckily I was able to continue the petition.  If you have already signed it then I would like to thank you for your support.  It would be awesome if you could support my cause even more by forwarding on the details to your friends and contacts - the more noise we make the more likely our voices will be heard!

Why I started the petition... having worked at the VNZMA the last two years I have made so many contacts and have been able to rub shoulders with numerous record label reps, TV presenters, News reporters and the list goes on!  All the bands that are nominated for an award or perform at the awards get to meet all these people as well.  It seems to me that it's not fair that the 'popular' bands who already have a lot of label backing etc seem to get to make MORE contacts while yet again METAL gets forgotten about. I don't aim to make METAL MAINSTREAM!  It never will be!  BUT I would like Metal bands/musicians to be eligible to make the same contacts and have the same opportunities that the current genres eligible for the VNZMA already receive.  I know a few other METAL fans DON'T agree with me starting this petition because they think that either the METAL scene doesn't need it or that it will become MAINSTREAM.. real METAL bands/fans will NEVER let METAL become mainstream!

I see the METAL scene as being in a very exciting place right now.  NZ on Air have FINALLY changed their eligibility criteria for non 'popular' bands, there are more METAL radio and TV shows now than there was in the past.  NZ METAL bands are getting more and more recognition overseas (touring Europe, Australia, Asia) and selling out those gigs!  If something doesn't change within the Music Industry in NZ we are going to be saying goodbye to more and more talented musicians who will join the brain drain and move overseas because the opportunities are greater over there.

Soundwave Revolution 2011 canned

This suck because there were so many kiwi's flying over for the gig, and the reasons for it's cancellation seem to be rumour at this stage, like Van Halen pulled out, thus they canned the whole festival (seems unlikely).
As it says on the fb page screen shot, many of the bands due to play, will/may arrange other gigs so on the whole Aussie fans won't miss out as much as kiwi fans (hence why I don't really have much sympathy for Aussie fans, especially after seeing some of their nasty comments just prior to the official announcements)
For those who have flights to one of the festival dates, if you haven't refunded flights etc (if you can) I reccomend seeing if you can wait for a few days to see what alternative arrangements have been made.

I'm half lucky this news came when it did because I was literally a few days away from payday, from whence I'd really tightening the screws/wallet strings to save up for flights & tix. (Unlikely that I'd actually get the funds together, but i would've tried)

Metal at Shadows

http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=158306414245987
Saturday August 20th, only $5 (or free for Auckland uni students)
Downfall of Humanity, Jackal, Old Kingdom, All a Sudden Darkness

Metal At Shadows: Some pros and cons of the venue- Smokers have to go down 3 flights of stairs and around the corner of the building to off campus in order to have a cigarette (this is university policy not shads itself & I've quit now so it doesn't bother me too much), in the past they've been anti-moshing, but do to the infrequent appearance of metal gigs it's no wonder the bouncers we're unused to it.

BUT, it was my second home for many years, and the people who work there (random guy included) are an awesome bunch, unless you vomit on their carpet of course. Jugs are $10/$11, but consider you could probably fit 3 standard bottles of beer into each- it ain't too bad. If you're a student at auckland uni, entry is free, and if you used to go there then it's a trip down memory lane

Scaphist, Fuelset, Heathen Eyes and more at Kings Arms Aug 18th

August 18th @ Kings Arms.  $5
