In Dread Response & Molest the Episcopate gigs

a licensed/all ages In Dread Response gig, with Molest the Episcopate (who, from the 1 time I seen them play, seem to injure the crowd more than any other band I've seen lately; concussions and bloodshed & not necessarily from the mosh pit) This gig is likely to be pretty bad ass, and should blow out a few cobwebs for the older patrons as bright youngens spaz over IDR, and the darker lot injure themselves to MTE.

re: Cobra Khan intereview

When the podcasts update (to this weeks, the 28th November show) you'll be able to check out my call to Cobra Khan's Evan Short: again it starts at about 30min in (after the 'A Band of Orcs' track)

Here's a screen shot of the itunes store home page (or whatever you wish to call it) with Cobra Khan's new album "Adversities" listed on the right hand side, which I mentioned in the interview \m/

Gotta be honest, I don't feel all that comfortable with having this pic on the site

Remember: we podcasting..

To listen to the current podcast, follow: http://www.95bfm.com/default,18,bcasts.sm?cast=202634

Pros:
  1. It's a heavy metal podcast.
  2. It is FREE.
  3. It's updated weekly.
  4. No email addresses required.
  5. No captcha required.
  6. It's from a real radio broadcast, with all the awesome pitfalls that implies (i.e. no second takes).
  7. Can listen to it on apple products like the itouch (and I assume others like ipads, iphones etc)
  8. Can listen to it on laptops that are connected to the internet.
  9. Can listen to it on P.C's that are connected to the interent.
  10. Can listen to it with headphones so no one around can eavesdrop in on your tunes.
  11. Sometimes we have interesting non-song stuff, like interviews and me farting or more likely burping as I persist with fizzy, carbonated drinks when talking on air.
  12. You can listen to it at any time during the week before it is replaced, so you don't have to worry about staying up to 1am on Monday night/Tuesday morning to hear the live-broadcast.
  13. You can listen to it, potentially, when I (the guy who talks ) will be asleep or otherwise occupied and thus nowhere near a radio microphone.
  14. We publish the playlist on the 95bfm website with the podcast link as well as on here, hardfastheavy.com, so you can keep up with all the songs that are playing: if you missed the forward and back announcements of the songs...

Cons:
  1. Requires internet connection.
  2. Requires ability to perceive audio to take full advantage.
  3. Helps to be a fan of Heavy metal, and hard fast and heavy music in general.
  4. Requires volume on internet-capable device to not be on mute or so low you can't hear it.

That is all.

Notes for the show (28th Nov 2011)

ULCERATE: Playing at the Rising Sun (on K Rd in Auckland, New Zealand) this Friday (December 2nd) with Stone Angels and Scaphist.
JUST ONE FIX: playing at the Coda Lounge, in New Lynn, this Saturday with Bury the Ordinary, As Colour Fades and The Blacklight Configuration (I hope The Blacklight Configuration don't gig with The Darklight Corporation any time soon: I'd be left tongue-tied and/or confused).

Ulcerate signs to Relapse Records!

In awesome news that was posted on blabbermouth mere moments after I'd gone to sleep (after doing the hardfastheavy show and mucking around etc), NZ band Ulcerate have signed a deal of some kind with Relapse Records.
Here's the news from the Relapse site: http://www.relapse.com/label/news/ulcerate-sign-to-relapse-records.html

On an unprofessional note: It's good to see a NZ band making it big overseas, and have over-seas people want to see 'em live etc, and the venue for the gig the poster below is promotes, is a 15minute bus ride (and a bit of a walk..) away from my place. For once, on occasions like this, metal fans in New York, the UK etc kinda go, Uuuuhhh, where as all I'm all like, "Where'd I put my bus card?" I take this opportunity now, 'cos I know any given week/month/year has more wicked metal acts rolling through their towns than we get in a decade..

RIP Flattus

http://www.gwar.net/news/the-passing-of-guitarist-cory-smoot-aka-flattus-maximus

GWAR Guitarist since 2002 and 5th enhabitor of the character Flattus Maximus, Cory Smoot mysteriously passed away recently 2 weeks into a 6week US/Canada tour.
GWAR has decided to continue with their tour, as what I understand to be as much about their own mourning as well as respect for Smoot.
Speaking of 'out of respect for' the Flattus Maximus character will be retired, in GWAR lore he returned to his home planet, "Planet Home" 'and will never return to this mudball planet again. And this is a sadder place for that.' (http://www.gwar.net/)

The band and as much of the live show as they could bring (props etc but not Gor-gor their pet dinosaur) were in Auckland last December for the No Sleep Til fest, with Megadeth and 3 Inches of Blood, and as apart of the lead up I got to interview front man Oderus Urungus.

RIP Cory Smoot/ Flattius Maximus

More info on new Lamb of god album

It's a few days old now (I caught the news on the show last monday, 31st Oct) that the name of the new Lamb of God album is "Resolution". Once some professional journos sorted this story out, they brought up some album cover art too

And something about a 30second 'preview' that you can view here: http://player.vimeo.com/video/31344231

The album is out January 24th so there's several weeks we NZ fans have to listen to 'Resolution' before their show here at the Studio, with The Black Dahlia Murder, Unearth and Cripple Mr Onion.

Tracklist:
1. Straight For The Sun
2. Desolation
3. Ghost Walking
4. Guilty
5. The Undertow
6. The Number Six
7. Barbarosa
8. Invictus
9. Cheated
10. Insurrection
11. Terminally Unique
12. To The End
13. Visitation
14. King Me

It seems to me to be a bit early to get Lamb of God fans raging with even more anticipation in their computer chairs with a track-by-track, given theres 2/3months wait for its release, but I guess MH know you gotta get in early if they want this article and their name printed/linked to on the album global press release in Jan 2012.

Resolution Track-By-Track

Straight For The Sun
By the sounds of the Iommi-friendly monster of a riff that opens this album up, Willie Adler has been listening to a lot of Black Sabbath recently. Slow, doomy and fucking massive. Unexpected, but not unwelcome. Here we go…

Desolation
Two tracks in and we already have a potential single on our hands. Kicking off with a riff that isn’t a million miles away from ‘Redneck’, this is classic Lamb Of God – big riffs, big grooves and a big chorus begging for big crowds. So basically, big.

Ghost Walking
This starts off with a bit of a curveball thanks to a spoken-word count-in and a cheeky bit of Southern-fried acoustic strumming, before exploding into a monstrous, swaying riff and some more of those untouchable Lamb of God grooves.

Guilty
Oh hey there fifth gear! This is the fastest song on the album so far, with a real face-ripper of an intro and some great hooks, with Randy Blythe in snarlingly vicious form. LOG are definitely back. We’ve missed you, boys.

Undertow
Not only does this keep the pace flying, but the catchiness of the chorus has “festival crowd” written all over it. Randy’s “I am the one who’s left to take the falllllll!” line is epic and could be one of the singalong moments of the year. You heard it here first!

The Number Six
…which is the sixth track, handily. Another big, big chorus, this one’s a swaying, chug-laden juggernaut with some nifty hardcore-style backing vocals thrown into the mix. Interesting…

Barbarosa
We can’t be sure if this handy musical interlude is named after the 1982 cowboy flick starring Willie Nelson, but given the acoustic melodies and eerie sound effects wah-wahed in, we wouldn’t be surprised. Still; it neatly cuts the album in half and gives us a breather…

Invictus
…aaaand we’re back. More shout-along backing vocals mixed in with some seriously thrashy moments and a monolithically big breakdown or two. One for the circle pits if ever there was one.

Cheated
Was that a “One-two-onetwoFUCKYOU!” we just heard? Either way, this is the fastest and most brutal track on the album by a mile, glancing back at the band’s Burn The Priest days while still bristling with the hooks we’ve come to know and love them for.

Insurrection
Slowing the tempo down a touch works nicely here, with Randy switching to cleaner (by his standards) vocals over an epic, sprawling wall of menacing riffs.

Terminally Unique
This is straightforward, groove-chundering, riff-spitting Lamb Of God at their best, with an almost galloping midsection giving it some real pace. “Your life is passing…..BYYYYYYYYYYYYY!” screams Randy, who is sounding more and more possessed and wretched as this album goes on.

To The End
There’s some real Pantera-isms to this bad boy, which is probably the most out-and-out groove metal track on the whole album. Another possible live favourite? We think so.

Visitation
If not ‘Desolation’, then this could make another great leading single. Crushing riffs and great hooks, and still catchy as fuck? Suits us.

King Me
Now this is how you finish an album. A slow, brooding intro with Randy’s Southern drawl giving spoken-word lyrics a real tinge of wretchedness, before a full-on orchestra kicks in to take things stratospheric. But ‘S&M’ this ain’t; this is dark, epic, heavy fucking metal, and when the strings do pop up again for the chorus, they only add to the thunderous grandeur of the whole thing. It’s different, but it’s definitely still Lamb Of God. Now, we reckon we might just have to start again…
