The Exploited at the Kings Arms, April 29th
https://www.facebook.com/events/149489075153770/
This coming April riot starting, bouncer bashing, cop baiting, hotel trashing, foul talking, noise making, chaos causing, venue wrecking, government hating, rule breaking, piss taking, unrelenting, punk rock band THE EXPLOITED bring their politically charged live show back to New Zealand.
The Exploited are not 'punkers' or any of the other cutesy, watered down, TV friendly names you might want to call them. The Exploited are punk rock.
Formed in 1979, the quartet created a simple, no-frills sound characterized by speed and aggression. Led by vocalist Wattie Buchan, The Exploited is one of the UK’s most politically outspoken thrash bands, who has built a strong and loyal following both at home and abroad for its anti-authoritarian stance and criticism of the government, particularly in the Reagan/Thatcher era.
In 1980, the group founded its own independent record label, Exploited Record Company, and immediately released their debut EP Army Life, which was #6 in the independent charts for eight weeks, and the top 20 for an amazing 18 months. They then released another single, "Barmy Army", which immediately jumped into the independent charts and remained there for 53 weeks, peaking at #4. In 1981 the band signed to Secret Records and released the single "Dogs of War", which peaked at #2 in the independent charts and #63 in the national charts.
1982 saw the release of The Exploited's first genuine classic album 'Troops Of Tomorrow' (#17), which ten years later was to see a medley of three tracks (most notably 'UK82' changed to 'LA92') covered by thrash metal band, Slayer, and US rapper Ice-T, for the 'Judgement Night' soundtrack. The homage was just further proof of the immeasurable influence that punk bands like The Exploited have had on the thrash metal scene. In fact, it can be argued that without them, there would be no Metallica, Slayer or Slipknot.
In over two decades The Exploited have been tear gassed by German cops, banned from Holland, arrested in Spain, declared that the Falklands are British forever whilst on stage in Argentina and have caused more carnage than a multi-car pile up on the M1. Throughout that time they have remained steadfastly true to their roots, never selling out, never splitting up (despite numerous line-up changes) and never bowing down. They've been accused of being dumb (yes, sometimes, but wilfully so) and causing trouble (guilty again, but smashing stuff is fun and punks are supposed to be obnoxious). But The Exploited are also fiercely (not to mention bluntly) socially and politically aware, covering everything from the Criminal Justice Act to the increasing use of Big Brother CCTV and never wavering from their anti-authoritarian, anti-war stance.
Don’t miss The Exploited when they tear up Auckland this April.

April 7th at the Thirsty Dog
Stick
around Auckland this Easter and treat yourself to something far better
than what the easter bunny has to offer. A blistering live set from
Mothra at the Thirsty Dog on K Rd with support from Roache and a debut
set from Brigada.
Mothra's sound draws from the alternative, progressive and post metal genres, mixing ambience and atmosphere with massive low tuned riffs and odd tunings. Mothra combine experimental ideas with conventional catchy song writing, forged into a unique sound and journey of their own. There is something very special about to be released, and it may even be out before this gig.
Roache describe themselves as 'Post Motown Gangsta Core' and cite influences such as Red Hot Chili Peppers, Parkway Drive, Eminem, John Butler Trio, Dr. Dre, and Rage Against The Machine. And they play naked.
Not to be missed is a debut set from a band called Brigada. These guys cite none other than Black Flag as a major influence, so expect a raw brand of hardcore punk from these fellas.
Only $10 on the door, merch will be available. First band on around 9.

Bad reaction
(based on a facebook update)
Saw some cell phone video of this song (Gojira's "Of Blood and Salt" feat. Devin Townsend and Fredrik Thordendal of Meshuggah off a forthcoming EP for the Sea Shepards charity.) at one of the 2012 Soundwave shows in Aussie recently.
And, as you may or may not know, I was unable to attend ANY soundwave related show this year (including the limited selection that popped over to NZ) so when I heard about the performance as depicted in the video above, my reaction was:
and/or

Lamb of God forced to can NZ, Alaska shows
See a copy of the press release below, and while undertheradar are emailing ticket holders, it is important to send this information out as far and wide as possible so that all those with travel plans etc can make their own minds about amending those plans or not.
Seems as though the new show will feature The Black Dahlia Murder & Unearth with extended sets (possibly twice as long) and with the bands from the after party joining in as supports. The new pre-sale ticket price is likely to be $55 or there abouts, and door sales to be a few dollars more than that.
Lamb of God will most likely be back again, they seem to love NZ: if they're into bungey jumping off the harbour bridge, having coffee at mission bay & sitting in on local band rehearsals.
Despite of all this bad news I think we should recognise that there is still a metal gig to be blasted out, and show the love by attending and getting messy in the mosh pit.
From: https://www.facebook.com/rwentertainment/posts/315770065147959
It is with deep regret that RW Entertainment must announce that LAMB OF GOD have been forced to withdraw from their scheduled appearance at Studio in Auckland on Wednesday March 7th due to a domestic emergency affecting the band. The band and their management have issued their own concise cancellation statement, as follows: "Lamb of God have been forced to cancel their shows scheduled for March 7th in Auckland, New Zealand and March 9th in Anchorage, Alaska, due to a medical emergency regarding a family member.
The band intends to make up both shows during the Resolution tour cycle." THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER and UNEARTH will now perform a co-headlining substitute show at the same venue, with support from original Lamb of God local openers CRIPPLE MR ONION, and scheduled afterparty acts STATE OF INTEGRITY and IN DREAD RESPONSE.
Both The Black Dahlia Murder and Unearth will perform extended sets to compensate for the absence of Lamb of God. Doors for this show will open at 7pm, as per the Lamb of God show and entry will again be restricted to those aged 18 and over. Entry to the substitute show is valid for any original Lamb of God ticket-holder.
There will also be door sales available to the substitute show. All ticket holders will receive an automatic $30 refund on their original ticket. Anyone requesting a full refund must do so by midday on Sunday March 11th and cannot use their ticket to attend the substitute show. Refunds will not be processed any earlier than Monday March 12th. Any questions regarding refunds can be directed to tix@undertheradar.co.nz
The scheduled signing and meet and greet sessions for Lamb of God have also been cancelled, although winners of the various competitions promoted by RW Entertainment and their media partners will still have their CD prize packs honoured and sent out. Everyone involved in the RW Entertainment family is beyond devastated that this has happened at the eleventh hour, with such a small amount of notice.
Our deepest sympathies are with Lamb of God at this, their time of need. We hope to see as many of you as possible turn out in big numbers to support The Black Dahlia Murder and Unearth, who always deliver live shows of unparalleled intensity, and will no doubt do a fine job of making up for Lamb of God's late withdrawal. While this situation was no-one's fault, and simply one of those unfortunate turns in life that catches everyone off-guard, RW Entertainment would sincerely like to extend their deepest apologies to the many fans who had bought tickets (a lot of tickets!) to the show and who have shown such massive support and excitement during the whole time leading up to it. In particular, we want to acknowledge those people who were due to travel from out of town for this show.
We know how great an inconvenience this must be, and can only hope that the substitute show we have managed to pull together slakes everyone's thirst for pure American heavy metal until such time as Lamb of God and ourselves work again.
