Periphery writing new material

Another band we've talked to this year, Periphery, are working on a new E.P and 2nd full length album.
the band released their self-titled debut via Roadrunner records & they were in the australia R.R offices when we talked. They're about to start a big US tour with Darkest Hour thru November & December.


 Their update reads as follows:
“Periphery is well into the writing process for our upcoming EP. We have tracked most of the instrumentation and vocals and are making final tweaks on everything but you guys are in for a treat. There will be some re-tweaked material, some rare material and some brand new material on it so there will be something for everyone.
We have also been working on material for our second full-length now, so that we can have as much time to refine it before we record the final product. Be sure to check our MySpace and Facebook pages regularly for our updates. Our goal with our music is to cover as much ground as possible while staying true to our sound, and hopefully evolve from previous work all at once. It’s a tall order but a fun challenge nonetheless, and we are doing our best to ensure that the new material will fulfill that goal.
We want to thank all of our fans for their love and support. We would be nowhere without you and we want to be able to meet you all and thank you in person, so be sure to come out to the shows and hang out with us.”

The Sword are back

As you all know, a little while ago (now former) Drummer Trivett promptly departed from the band, for personal reasons. Weeks before this we at the hfhshow had talked to Trivett ahead of The Swords supporting slot for Metallica down in Chch.

HFH Show 3 Inches of Blood Phone Intervew

I just finished talking to Shane Clark, guitarist for Canadian battle/heavy metal band 3 Inches of Blood, while I was calling from the heart (or almost, certainly central) Auckland, he was on an Idyllic sounding Vancouver Is.
My phone bill this month is gonna be a hefty one, what with all the international calls to Canada, America, Sweden etc etc.

We have Sam from Sinate coming up to the show this coming Monday, he'll be telling us all about their overseas exploits, upcoming tour and new album.
Which means we'll be airing the 2 as-yet-unaired interviews (i.e. Mitch from Suicide Silence and This one, Shane from 3 Inches of Blood) on later shows- but December 10th is creeping up quickly so no mucking around: if you haven't gotten your ticket, get one now! (to No Sleep til Auckland, that is..)

Those who went to/ remember a gig on Easter this year at the Transmission Room, Black FKN Friday, which featured Auckland & Christchurch bands (and Cripple Mr Onion, who I imagine could call both cities home) as well as a debut (I think) performance from The Mark of Man, and a band who came dressed in dresses...

But Chch's Zerstiren performed that night, and they are making the hike back up to the big smoke for a show at the Kings Arms on the day after the BDO (Jan 22nd), this time bringing:

Blindfolded and Led to the Woods (BALTTW) who made news by appearing on Tween show hosted by someone called Erin Simpson.
And;
The Murderous Seth, which is made up of 2 guys from Blindfolded and led to the woods, with the other two coming from Athenic and Word of God (both now ex members of those bands).

The night's rounded off by The Mark of Man & Mt Eden massive: Anabyss.


Zerstiren, themselves, have their debut album, Ave Pangenitor, being mixed and mastered in Austria!

Razorwyre offers EP for free download

A little while ago we got an email from the band regarding this new website of theirs, now that they're publicising it:

The band formerly known as 'Gaywyre' are working on writing a debut full length, but offer their EP for free. If you're thinking you remember the name- they opened for Exodus & played at Galatos the day after exodus, with Dreams of the Dead, recently.

Dimmu Borgir go to Japan

They've just announced shows in late February 2011, along side those in Australia at the awesome looking Soundwave traveling festival, but unfortunately there's no sign of a New Zealand show..

They recently released another studio album "Abrahadabra", songs from which you can hear on the next hard fast heavy show (1st November) along side our GWAR interview, a band who are coming to NZ.

HFH show GWAR phone Interview!

I have just finished my (phone) interview with the infamous space monster that heads the equally infamous metal band GWAR
I can say without a doubt that Oderus Urungus is THE most awesome gruesome war mongering space monster I have ever had the privilege of speaking to.

After conducting the interview, I have no hesitation in broadcasting this interview on the next show, this coming monday night (Nov 1st) my interview with Suicide Silence's vocalist Mitch will be aired the show after.

 If you don't know to whom I spoke (i.e. Oderus) here are two pics I found of him via google image search. i hope to have my own shots, come No Sleep Till Auckland- December 10th at the ASB showgrounds.
I think he was in full get up, as you see below, as I caught him just prior to a show in Ohio, on their tour throughout the states.

Interview Mitch (Suicide Silence)

I just got off the phone with Mitch, the vocalist of Deathcore metal band, Suicide Silence. The band are currently on a headlining tour in the states (he was in Colarado when I talked to him) they're heading off to Europe and Russia for bit, before heading to NZ and Australia for the No Sleep til tour.

We'll keep you updated as to when we'll broadcast the interview, as we are due to give Oderus Urungus the infamous leader of GWAR a call, and we'll have the tough decision to make whether to play Gwar straight away or let it fester for a week or two as we air our Suicide Silence interview 1st...

"Strength in Numbers” is the dynamic first taste of the band’s debut, The Hymn of a Broken Man, which is due in stores on January 14 in Australia and January 17 in New Zealand, 2011. Times of Grace is the second go-round for Dutkiewicz and Leach, who enjoyed incredible collaborative chemistry on KsE’s definitive debut, 2002’s Alive or Just Breathing. Times of Grace doesn’t revisit the pair’s fruitful past; rather, it finds them taking a creative left turn away from what they’ve previously done, without diluting their signature styles as they explore new musical terrain. Nooo! It was only a few weeks ago that I got to talk to Trivett over the phone, regarding the bands new album "The Warp Riders" and what was their upcoming christchurch support slot for Metallica.

Austin, Texas based heavy metal outfit The Sword has announced that they have amicably split with drummer Trivett Wingo. As a result of this, all of the band's scheduled tour dates have been cancelled.
A message from the band reads as follows: “We wish Trivett nothing but the best, and it is with heavy hearts that we bid him farewell. He is a phenomenal musician and has been an integral part of this band’s success. He helped to lay the foundation that we will continue to build upon, and we wouldn’t be where we are without him. We wish he could continue the adventure with us, but we understand that the life of a touring musician is not for everyone. It’s been a hell of a ride, and we’re sad to see this part of the journey end. The show must go on, though, and we'll be back on the road as soon as humanly possible.”
Wingo himself states: “It is with deep sadness that I am announcing my departure from The Sword. After nearly seven years and some of the most amazing adventures of a lifetime, I have arrived at a place where I am physically and emotionally unable to continue on as part of The Sword. If I could go any further, I would as I love the music and JD, Bryan and Kyle are people that I deeply respect, but I have reached a point where I just can’t do this anymore. I would like to thank the wonderful people who made this experience what it has been: the fans, the people that I have worked and all of the bands and musicians that have inspired me over the years.
