Twitter, by means of facebook, has informed me that the NZ soundwave mini-fests have hit a snag, apparently, the council doesn't like the idea of 2 nights in a row of noise from Soundwave type bands, and probably the crowds it would draw into the seemingly, and based on my experience last time I was there a few years ago, non-residential area surrounding Trust Stadium: crosby, stills & nash and the cranberries are much better than a soundwave type crowd (they're upcoming events at the venue: http://www.thetrustsstadium.co.nz/ )
Granted, all this news, including the NZ mini-fest idea is all completely unconfirmed & unofficial at the moment, but it all stems from the twitter account of the promoter.
To check out tweets related to soundwave coming to NZ: https://twitter.com/#!/search?q=%23SWNZ (i hope this works, I don't really know how to use twitter but the thing to search is #SWNZ )

Thanks in getting my attention to the situation: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Bring-Soundwave-to-New-Zealand/108918035819405 The organiser for the Aussie touring festival answered a tweet in his twitter page stating that there will be a major soundwave event in NZ, namely two mini-festivals at Trusts Stadium, over two consecutive nights, Feb 22nd & 23rd the bands will be different each night with roughly 5-6bands in the lineup per night.
NOTE:
- A Day to Remember is (apparently and according to a tweet reply) on the bill,
- Marilyn Mason is not,
- System of a Down has some heavy rumours
- Lamb of God, The Black Dahlia Murder and Unearth are playing their own show, March 7th at the studio on K Rd.
- Having just had a quick squizz over the soundwavefestival.com site- there are roughly 94 bands on the lineup, which leaves 86 other bands that potentially could fill out the remaining bulk of the lineups for the two nights.
I haven't heard of any offical annoucements dates (specifics, just wait til next week), or any offical annoucements (beyond tweets) for that matter.
