Autopsy: The Headless Ritual

When you're a drummer and you get together with a bunch of other muso's to put together a debut album, the far reaching implications of your collective work is probably not at the fore of your thoughts. Now imagine after working on an album called "Scream Bloody Gore" you leave that band & start another.

I know many of you would know Autopsy drummer/vocalist played on the legendary Death's debut & soon after formed Autopsy. Autopsy had a bit of a rocky history over the years, disbanding in '95, reuniting briefly in 2008, then again in 2009, before disbanding & permanently reuniting in 2010, upon the end of side project come main stay band, Abscess.

Autopsy's new album "The headless Ritual" is out now & I'm not going to review the album, there are better people out there for the job, I'm simply going to say that this is going to be an album that Metallers of quite a few stripes are going to kick themselves if they don't pick it up. The simple maths of it is, that members of this band are amongst the pioneers of a major sub-genre, one which who's influence has propagated and worked its way well beyond its foundations, so in that respect there will be great hordes of the metal listening population that would find something to their liking in this album.

I know that when it comes to matters of personal taste, arguments like that (such and such done good before, so is good now) lies with the it's popular argument (if so many people like it, then it can't be bad) in their flawed logic but I guess the point I'm trying to allude to is that, it is worth mentioning their history because it still makes up the essence of their sound.

As I always say, go have a listen to 'em & if you like what you hear go pick up the album because it'll be worthwhile: it was released in NZ on the 21st of June via Peaceville Records/Southbound.

The Bogan's inside guide to metal

Dr Bogan, world famous in NZ and a broad, has authored "Bogan: An insiders guide to metal, mullets and mayhem." which is due for release on the 24th of July 2013 (according to the publishers website: http://www.penguin.co.nz/products/9780143568957/bogan )

Bits from an interview I conducted on the Hard, fast & heavy show is included in the book, though I can not think of what or why: though in all honesty it would be an honour if just my farts & burps were transcribed in the book  ;p
It was a real radio high flying meets grounded, stressful, normal life experience when Dr Bogan asked to use bits from the show in his book- not only was I in contact with Dr Bogan, but the promoter for the then upcoming Steel Panther gig was also on the phone to either set up the interview, or use bits from it for some news paper article: all the while I had a massive Structural Engineering Assignment due!
BUT in true bogan fashion; there is a release party, with bands playing and beer a flowing, no doubt!
Friday August 2nd, 2013: at Hamilton's Biddy Mulligans on Victoria St, featuring musical talent from Escape from the Sky, Team Kill & Cheshire Grimm
I'm reasonably sure you might be able to hear Dr Bogan whenever he joins Hamilton's own, The Feral Crew and if their appearance on the Steve Wrigley, Ben Hurley traveling TV comedy show was anything to go by, sounds like you'll be in for a few laughs with your metal

Incarnium

I would like to take the time to thank Andre from Deadlights Entertainment, and the lads from Incarnium.
If you missed the show & the podcast, on the 27th of May, Westies Incarnium were on, ahead of their album release show at the Kings Arms on the 1st of June.

Their new album, Purgatory, can be heard here: http://incarnium.bandcamp.com I recommend you check it out. The lads kindly passed on a physical copy so it'll be in the hard fast heavy vaults, ready to blast out a track whenever there's a request, when they're in the headlines again with a gig or even just when I want to.

They're a good bunch, as well as having a wicked sound so I'm putting them on the hard fast heavy show list of bands to watch out for.
