I know many of you would know Autopsy drummer/vocalist played on the legendary Death's debut & soon after formed Autopsy. Autopsy had a bit of a rocky history over the years, disbanding in '95, reuniting briefly in 2008, then again in 2009, before disbanding & permanently reuniting in 2010, upon the end of side project come main stay band, Abscess.
Autopsy's new album "The headless Ritual" is out now & I'm not going to review the album, there are better people out there for the job, I'm simply going to say that this is going to be an album that Metallers of quite a few stripes are going to kick themselves if they don't pick it up. The simple maths of it is, that members of this band are amongst the pioneers of a major sub-genre, one which who's influence has propagated and worked its way well beyond its foundations, so in that respect there will be great hordes of the metal listening population that would find something to their liking in this album.
I know that when it comes to matters of personal taste, arguments like that (such and such done good before, so is good now) lies with the it's popular argument (if so many people like it, then it can't be bad) in their flawed logic but I guess the point I'm trying to allude to is that, it is worth mentioning their history because it still makes up the essence of their sound.
As I always say, go have a listen to 'em & if you like what you hear go pick up the album because it'll be worthwhile: it was released in NZ on the 21st of June via Peaceville Records/Southbound.
