PRESS RELEASE: Kerretta announce new album: 'Pirohia'

Kerretta to release new album 'Pirohia' 05 Sept 2014
MIDIUM RECORDS are proud to announce the release of Taite Music Prize nominees KERRETTA's new album 'Pirohia'.
Available 05 SEP 2014.
This New Zealand trio has toured the world for the last four years and 'Pirohia' will be the band's third full length album.
Kerretta have shared stages over Europe, North America, and Australasia with the likes of The Breeders, And You Will Know Us By The Trail of Dead, Explosions In The Sky, Mono, and have performed festivals such as Incubate (NEL), Dunk! Festival (BEL), SXSW (USA) and Big Day Out (NZL).
Primarily instrumental, Kerretta revel with steadfast glee, the ins and the outs, the ups and the downs of a purely sonic narrative. A narrative that is heavy and dark, twisted with shards of beauty and danger all sitting securely on top of a churning slow burn groove. On one track only does the trio relent, and then in an unconventional fashion featuring vocals in Te Reo Maori fashioned along the ancient sun-bleached bones of a traditional Maori waiata.
Having been compared to the likes of Tool, Russian Circles, and described as a thinking bogan's rock band, Kerretta are excited to unleash their first album since 2011.

Bulletbelt (Well) 'Rise of the Banshee' N.Z / Aus tour

Photo: NZ/Aus tour is on!

Bulletbelt have been striking fear into New Zealand audiences since 2009. The Wellington based band craft tunes that draw from black metal's vicious realms, with traditional metal, torrents of thrash, and biting second wave punk all added in, to sharpen the razor.

nd playing support slots with diverse international acts – including The Black Dahlia Murder, Impiety, Goatwhore, Bolzer, Tragedy, Rotten Sound, Midnight, Municipal Waste, Ringworm, Paul Dianno, Blaze Bayley and Primate – Bulletbelt return with their new record Rise of the Banshee, their first with new vocalist Jolene Tempest. Heavy Metal Sports Merchandise

Are you not into sports?

Is the work betting pool the only real contact you have to the FIFA World Cup?

How about try some merchandise from all your favourite bands, but with a foot ball / soccer twist?

Motorhead have shirts out for the different countries (i.e USA, Germany, England, Russia, Mexico etc etc) going to $25USD

http://shop.imotorhead.com/index.php/world-cup-tees.html

Iron Maiden have a similar situation going on, but theirs are football style shirts, rather than the usual cotton tee. Mind you, you pay for it at 45 pounds a piece (not including shipping etc)

http://ironmaiden.com/maiden-brazil-football-shirt.html

I remember reading somewhere that Max Cavalera (Soulfly, Cavalera Conspiracy) was providing music for ESPN's coverage, adding a Brasillian flavour to proceedings. Haven't heard an update on this to confirm anything, but if we're talking football/soccer tees from metal bands, Sepultura's classic one surely deserves a mention.

I know that the sports to metal merch cross over is far larger market than the three examples I've shown here would suggest. But, unfortunately, apart from searching each band that sells merch on onlines web-stores, it's difficult to judge the scale of it (well it is on my phone during my lunch break at work, with all my bookmarks saved on the computer at home.).

As someone who is not a sports fan I am finding it weird that, at some level, I am interested to find out more about the extent of the Heavy Metal Sports Merch. I know Basket Ball singlets are another common option, but what are other merchandise options? Does an Irish Metal band have a line of Hurling shirts, or has there been a New Zealand band with Rugby shirts available at gigs?

So, in summary, I want to know:
  • How far does Heavy Metal Sports Merch spread? (i.e. bands vs types of sports- like, I don't see Pantera have had a line of Badminton shorts, as humourous as that may be- but Cowboys from Hell American Football gear totally works, right?)
  • Also, what would be some good sports gear to brand with metal band logos?

Down, Suicide Silence & Depths in NZ March

Down, Suicide Silence & Depths will be at the Powerstation on Mt Eden Rd, Eden Terrace, Auckland, New Zealand on Thursday the 6th of March 2014.

It will be an interesting night of a band with an iconic front man, one with a replacement front man, and a kick as kiwi band. Yeah.
