Big project for 2011

With only 2 shows left for the hfhshow in 2010, I've been pondering what I can do to make the next year interesting.
My idea;
ON THE ROAD TO BECOMING A TRUE METAL HEAD
Basically, I started in metal just before the big nu-metal craze, and though I was never fully immersed in said craze I was certainly influenced by it. Meaning, I didn't (or don't) have the background of many of the classic legends of metal, Black Sabbath eluded me for years, Judas Priest still does, I have a greatest hits of Iron maiden cd and that's about it.
I've been fermenting on such an idea for a while, till finally whilst taking a late night crap I came up with this.
The idea being that I will check out albums from the great nay, classic, nay legendary bands that sculpted the melting pot we call a genre.
Each week will (hopefully) bring a new album/ band and I'll progressively work my way through years of monumental listening.
The first show in 2011 will focus on the album that (most people say) started it all: Black Sabbaths 1970 self titled album.

I don't know what I'm expecting the outcome will be, but I will be taking advice from all of my interviewees next year and whenever an international act is announced to play NZ I'll take time out to check out a pivotal  album from them..

Stay tuned to the show and hardfastheavy.com to checkout what happens.

First slayer house lights, then this?

After extensive touring for the last 3 years, the band is ready to release the long awaited debut album ‘FALLEN EMPIRES’ (Riot! Entertainment/Warner Music). The tour has ventured all over Australia now heading to New Zealand before hitting Japan.

After a big year in ‘09 including support slots for STATIC X, DOPE and HANZEL UND GRETYL, signing with Australia's biggest

2010 has been to be even bigger.

Our Last Enemy now features new members BIZZ from legendary cult Florida industrial metal band GENITORTURES on guitar and
new keyboardist CRAIG. With a new lineup that raises the bands profile to a truly international level, the stage is set for a huge tour.

Recently playing an opening slot for FOZZY (USA) in Australia the boys are ready to unleash their power throughout New Zealand.

Metalocalypse season 3

http://www.madman.co.nz/catalogue/view/13569/metalocalypse-season-3-bluray

What to do now? Only 6hrs of HFH left for 2010

After the mammoth build up (of interviews and excitement) for No Sleep til Auckland, which has moved on to Australia (starting in Perth) what is there to do or more to the point- talk about, as everyone winds up for the holidays/new year.

As ever: HARDFASTHEAVY SHOW IS NOT TAKING A BREAK, we'll truck on thru.

Anyway, on the show we have interviews with Brendan Small (Co-creator of Metalocalypse) and Jesse Leach (Times of Grace, ex-Killswitch Engage) to air on the shows leading up to the demise of 2010.
Last shows are: December- 13th, 20th, 27th. Then January 3rd

If you're stuck with the horrors of a massive family get-together with all the aunts and uncles, or whatever normal folk do over the holidays, simply make sure you can get to a radio (if in Auckland) or internet and we'll sooth away the yuletide the best way possible, with metal

A look forward to 2011

New albums/ material from all over the place; Many of the No Sleep til Auckland bands I talked to, Arch Enemy, Inflames, The Haunted, Opeth, Lamb of God, Machine Head, Amon Amarth, Ulcerate, Origin, Obscura, Cavalera Conspiracy, Hate Eternal, All Shall Perish, Unearth, Converge, Devin Townsend, Septic Flesh, Testament, Children of Bodom, Devil Driver, Darkest Hour, Deicide, Turisas, Korpiklaani, Winds of Plague, Mastodon, Megadeth, Bleeding Through,
And the list goes on...

Also, System of the Down (I remember a few years ago, Random guy, my brother and I were out with a few of my mates at a favourite bar of my mates, when we decided to leave for cheaper beer. As we left, we had to side step an american couple excitedly talking to another american chap. As we got to the end of the road my borther turns around saying "That guy seems familiar" without breaking step and simultaneously Random Guy & I say "Yeah, It's Serj Tankian from S.O.A.D" "Oh, really? holy shit I got one of their cds" my brother replies, "He's metal isn't he? don't you wanna go talk to him?" again we reply "meh") and possibly more importantly (for me), At the Gates are both 'reforming' probably just for a limited run of big festival dates.

Judas Priest is winding up, apparently retiring in 2011.
The Melvins with High on Fire are lined up to visit and play several dates in NZ.

Disturbed with Trivium and As I Lay Dying are here in May, nothing interesting here, they've all visited relatively recently and often more than once. I missed As I Lay dying when they came last, but I hoped there be atleast a song from Austrian Death Machine...

In hilarious but "hmmm, could be interesting" news but  January, Kenny Rogers is playing Vector Arena (I had a good long hearty laugh when I heard this, which continued when my brother tells me he's excited that he's got his ticket to it..), a week or so later (or something) same with Joe Cocker & George Thorogood and the destroyers, ZZ Top in April- don't really know the ZZ Top details too much but they are touring Aussie with Rose Tattoo.

What lays ahead in terms of international metal acts visiting, and whether or not No Sleep Til fest returns, or whether the mammoth Soundwave fest announce they'll eventually have a NZ show- is all a mystery to me, but there's a lot of new albums with a lot of touring opportunities.

NSTA bit

I'd previously promised (on air) to piece together a big montage-esk segment containing clips from interviews and songs from bands appearing at the big No Sleep Til Auckland show this coming Friday.

I don't know how I'm gonna organise it, whether I file through the bands one at a time, or mix and match based on questions...

Either way, tune in this Monday (i.e. tommorrow) for some (hopefully) interesting radio..

Don't forget, there's still a "We came as Romans" interview- yet to be played. It's gonna be a jammed packed 2 hours.

Wikipedia says he voices Nathan Explosion, Skwisgaar Skwigelf, Pickles, and Dethklok manager, lawyer, advisor Charlse Offdensen.
