Notes for hfhshow 30 July 2013

MERCENARY- Through our Darkest Days
  • Title track from this Danish bands upcoming new album. Out now in US & Europe, do not know NZ/OZ release date.
CLUTCH- Promoter
  • Clutch vocalist, Neil Fallon, features/guests on the up coming Soulfly album. Clutch's latest album "Earth Rocker" is worth checking out as well.
DEATH DEALER- Hammer Down
  • Ross the Boss's new band. Self titled new album (judging by cover) has all your sci-fi fantasy warfare needs covered.
HUNTRESS- Zenith
HUNTRESS- I want to fuck you to death
  • Touring the 'states with Lamb of God, Testament & Killswitch Engage.
THE OCEAN- Bathyalpelagic II: The Wish in Dreams
  • New video, (NSFW due to tits, though I haven't watch all of it thanks to my computer not being able to handle more than one thing at a time)
AUTOPSY- Running from the Goathead
  • New/recent album: The Headless Ritual
MAMMOTH GRINDER- Barricades
LORD DYING- Water under a burning bridge
  • New album , 'Summon the Faithless'  out now on Relapse Records
MURDOK- Brain face
  • An example of technical, abrasive, and extreme lunacy from this killer unsigned Irish three piece.
SUSPERIA- Standalone
  • New, as yet untitled, album coming soon: this is a free download (like their FB page to get it)
ROLO TOMASSI- French Motel
  • Touring Australia, rather extensively: including a show with ex-pat kiwi's Jurassic Pengiun on the bill.
ERIMHA- Condemned to Death
  •  'Reign through Immortality' out now via Victory Records, go check it out & support these Canadians as judging by the band promo shot for the album one of the guys looks likes he needs to see a dentist..
KORPIKLAANI- Iron Fist
  • Motorhead cover, after news that the legendary band (Motorhead, not Korpiklaani) have released information on their next, upcoming album. I played this song on Monday, and now on Thursday as I finally get around to posting this, it has been announced that these guys are touring NZ in October!!!
DAMNED SPRING FRAGRANTIA- D.M.Z
  • Brutally intense, unrelenting and outright savage, this Italian bands new album 'Divergences' wouldn’t be misplaced as the soundtrack to the leveling of humanity, as 10 tracks of down-tuned 8 strings flesh out an unrelenting aural bludgeoning. Layering ruthless riffs over frenetic drumbeats and intricate timing changes and a bass tone that makes you want to prolapse at the sheer thought of it, Damned Spring Fragrantia’s debut album is a bold, chest-beating emergence onto the European metal scene.
MANEGARM- Wake the Gods
  • This Swedish viking/black metal band released their latest album 'Legions of the North' a wee while back & I had lined this song up to play then, but only now finally got around to playing it. If you like what you hear, these guys have almost 20years & 7 or 8 albums, and as an added bonus the cover art not only features viking warriors welding axe & sheild, a snake and wolf, but the center piece is a mystical bare breasted woman with horns & a half skull for a face.
NEXILVA- Eschatologies
  • Full bore progressive death metal from a bunch of UK lads barely out of their teens
THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER- Their Beloved Absentee
  •  New album 'Into the Everblack' out now on Metal Blade records, a kiwi did their artwork for this album, you're missing out if you haven't picked up this album yet!
DEW-SCENTED- Confronting Entropy
  • I found this on a random (possibly recent) compilation from Prosthetic records.

Notes for hfhshow 22 July 2013

KARNIVOOL- We Are
  • Late last week (week starting 15th July) I had an interview with one of the guys from Karnivool, ahead of their new album, Asymmetry, which as of the 19th of July is in stores now. The video for "We Are" is definitely worthwhile checking out!
BATTLE BEAST- Neuromancer
  • Random pick. My computer was not liking the music player I was using to sort out the playlist for the show, so with time running out I quickly selected this song as a buffer from Karnivool to Ulcerate. I know that Ulcerate is 2 songs away, but I hadn't planned to play those two songs in between.
RAZORWYRE- Knights of Fire (NZ)
  • In light of the earthquakes and terrible situation down there, I had wanted to play a few more songs from Wellington bands, but I lacked the time to prepare. These guys are an awesome band, and even scored Nick Keller from Weta Workshop to do their cover art for "Another Dimension"
PHAZE 1- Screams of dying dogs
  • New Album: news out recently that says Phaze 1 are due to release a new album in October, good news as I like this band, and the last one I have (possible their last album) was from 2005/2006, and I've had it almost as long...
AMON AMARTH- Stand Up to Go Down
  • Viking themed metallers have a smashing new album (I'm not british, so I mean that if any album had the ability to literally smash things, this would be one.) a deluxe version sees the addition of a 4 track cd called "Under the Influence". I haven't been able to nail down what's going on here, but it's not a covers EP, rather they're writing songs in the style of other iconic bands.
ULCERATE- Cold Becoming (NZ)
  • NZ' s own, Relapse records signed metallers are due to release a new album in September, or there abouts, and to keep fans on the edges of their seats by releasing a wee behind the scenes look at the recording of new album "Vermis". More information about the band is available at http://www.ulcerate-official.com/
MISERY SIGNALS- Shadows and Depth
  • New album out now by this British band, called "Absent Light". Get it through Basick Records.
BEHEMOTH- Slave shall serve
  • www.chaosnz.com have announced a Behemoth show at the end of October at the King Arms! Last time I saw them was December 2007 or so, I think. If you go check out http://www.metalblade.com/behemoth/ they currently have posted up, a video for 'Lucifer' (NSFW)
CARCASS- Captive Bolt Pistol
  • New single from the bands upcoming album "Surgical Steel"
BULLETBELT- Down in the Cold of the Grave (NZ)
  • A most excellent Wellington band.
STOMACH EARTH- Watchers
  • Gunface from The Red Chord has a new band and this is it, worth a listen!
VOIVOD- Target Earth
  • New music video out for this song.
  •  Here's a teaser:
BLINDFOLDED AND LED TO THE WOODS- Windchimes and Nuclear Fallout (NZ)
PHILLIP H ANSELMO AND THE ILLEGALS- Battalion of Zero
  • New album, 'Walk through Exits Only' has been lighting up the metal worlds music players and ear buds.
SETENTIA- Beyond Bionic Blame (NZ)
  • Auckland band who are also playing at Mix Studios, August 2nd, see note for 'Blindfolded and Led to the Woods'.
COFFINS- Dishuman
  • New album out now, "The Fleshlands"
ILLDISPOSED- Time To Dominate
  • Random pick.
5 STAR GRAVE- If
  • Random pick.

Tuesday, 6 December 2011

Notes for show; 6th Dec 2011

  • Shadows fall putting final touchs on new (7th) album with KSE's Adam D. tbh; I did think their 2009 Retribution was better than 2007s Threads of life.
  • Killswitch Engage have 8 demos ready for a new album.
  • Canadian metallers CANCER BATS have set "Dead Set On Living" as the tentative title of their fourth album, due in early 2012.
  • Wacken 2012 is sold out for the seventh time in a row. All 75,000 tickets. Sort of. There are still two ways you can make the trip. Google it/check out the wacken website to find out.
  • Caliban announce new album, artwork and tracklisting: Album title: I Am Nemesis.
  • The legends that are, Venom have their new album, "Falling Angels" out now.
  • Regarding the Meshuggah & Periphery tracks; i.e. djent- it's a 'genre' that the copycat-ism etc rather than the sounds themselves, could have been removed from 2011, for the better.
  • Dreams of the Dead, playing this Thursday @ Kings Arms, good times=yes.
